Portions of the historic Liberty Building in downtown Des Moines was converted to the Hyatt Place Hotel. The hotel features 95 rooms and 75,000 sqft.  This downtown Des Moines site is Hyatt Place’s first location in the State of Iowa.

In addition to providing mechanical design build services for the entire Liberty Building renovation project, Baker Group also provided Sheet Metal and Building Automation Systems services for the Hyatt Place Hotel. Portions of the Hotel are located in the basement, part of the first floor and floors 4 through 8. As part of a true mixed-use facility, tenants already occupied several floors of the Liberty Building. To minimize disruption to these tenants, Baker Group’s work occurred at night.

Work included installation of; chilled water vertical stack fan coil units with electric heat, a new AHU with chilled water coil, VAV boxes with electric reheat installed at the zones, a Dectron unit to heat and cool the pool area along with handling the dehumidification. A kitchen, including grease interceptors was also installed.
