Background

As global demand for this Midwest-based animal nutrition company’s products increased, this nutrition company urgently needed to increase its production capacity. It contracted Baker Group to expand the production area to accommodate a new production line. Baker Group provided a wide range of services, which included building information modeling (BIM), compressed air systems design and audits, engineering/process design assist, process piping, sheet metal, skid/module design and fabrication.

Constraint

Adding new production equipment and systems, tying them into the existing production facility and meeting the company’s goal of becoming operational within one year presented a major challenge. In addition to designing, fabricating and installing process piping, utility piping and process ductwork systems, Baker Group was responsible for procuring, laying out and installing utility equipment and systems, and for planning and installing a process dryer, evaporator and related systems.

Solution

Baker Group’s design-build team excels at building and meeting tight production schedules. Having extensive inhouse resources allowed Baker Group to coordinate mechanical and sheet metal design, prefabrication and installation, which significantly tightened the project schedule.

Baker Group used its 3D scanning technology to create detailed computer images of the existing facility. When designing solutions, these scans facilitated accurately tying in new process systems and equipment.

Results

Baker Group’s diverse inhouse expertise, technologies and services made it possible to not only meet an aggressive construction schedule, but also to do it while providing exceptional solutions, quality and value.
