This project was a collaborative joint venture between private industry and the University of Iowa. This project is the first of its kind at the UI Oakdale Facility. It is designed to develop new companies by giving new start-up and transitional businesses lower lease rates for laboratory spaces.

The BioVentures Center building provides wet lab and office space for life science companies. The BioVentures Center currently contains: BioVentures Center business incubator; 20 wet laboratory modules; 16 office/dry laboratory modules; administrative offices for UI Research Park and Business Incubator; technical support areas; executive board room and shared conference rooms; shared laboratory equipment; flexible design to enable company expansion and address individual company requirements; and multi-purpose room.

The systems in this building were collaborative design between KJWW Engineering Consultants and Baker Group. The system installed is a AAON RTU with the capacity to have 100% outside air if needed, for the cooling of the building, and electric heat on VAV boxes to heat the building. Additionally, there are two, Strobic exhaust fans designed for the hoods in the wet labs.
