Barilla Plant & Warehouse

Barilla America Gluten Free Production Addition

Barilla absorbed a portion of their existing warehouse area to produce a new gluten free pasta product. This was a difficult task for two reasons. First, the existing plant and warehouse needed to remain in full production of their existing products. Secondly, they wanted the work in the new gluten free pasta area done quickly, but they still did not have all the information needed from the pasta line equipment supplier in Switzerland. As information became available, Baker Group assembled a complete mechanical design. The tight schedule required we have all our piping and HVAC systems in place so that when the equipment arrived, the assembly crews from Italy could work in that area
uninterrupted.

This project required extending their existing physical plant utilities to this new production area. This included the 44oF chilled water, 275oF high temperature water, RO water, compressed air, natural gas, and domestic cold water. It also included installation of one 12,000 CFM make up air system, one 20,000 cfm make up air system, one 30,000 cfm make up air system, plus a new heat exchanger skid. Baker Group also provided Allen Bradley industrial automation for the project. Baker Group’s Automation Group completed the installation of the Allen Bradley ControlLogic PLC system for the Gluten Free addition including all air handlers, chilled water, hot water, process hot water, pumps, chillers boilers heating exchangers, and metered plant utilities.

Barilla was happy with how Baker Group handled all aspects of the project, including, Mechanical Systems Design, the fast past schedule, heavy amounts of detailing and fabrication, and great team coordination, while completing all work and maintaining the operation of the existing production facility.
