Chevron (formerly REG) – Technology Center
Chevron’s new 37,000-square-foot Technology Center expands the company’s ability to innovate in renewable fuel technologies. As a long-standing partner, Baker Group was selected to deliver this full design build project, managing every stage from concept and engineering through fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
This was a truly integrated effort, involving all Baker Group business units including services across our industrial, mechanical, electrical, sheet metal, automation, structured cabling, security, service, and site utilities teams. Close collaboration with Chevron’s end users ensured every system met the specialized requirements of their analytical, experimental, and pilot-scale research processes.
Facility Overview
The new facility includes a combination of office space, laboratories, warehousing & receiving, and pilot plant spaces designed to support renewable fuel technology development from initial analysis through process testing.
Scope of Work
Mechanical / Industrial
Installed all hydronic, plumbing, and gas piping systems, mechanical equipment, and performed pressure testing and commissioning.
Major Equipment Installed:
- Hydrogen Generator and Chiller
- Air-Cooled Chiller
- (3) Air Handling Units
- (2) Boilers
- (7) Hydronic Pumps
- RO/DI System
- Lab Humidification System
- (2) Air Compressors
- (2) Gas Water Heaters

Electrical
Provided electrical materials and installation, including:
- 2000A 480V service
- 125kW standby generator
- Lighting and lighting controls
- Isolated emergency stop systems for each lab
- Fire alarm and grounding systems
Sheet Metal
Installed 42,850 lbs (1.03 miles) of supply, return, and exhaust ductwork, including:
- Custom ventilated enclosures, fume hoods, range hoods, and snorkels
- (3) Strobic fans, (36) supply VAVs, and (36) exhaust VAVs
- Dedicated warehouse exhaust system
Over 700 BIM hours, 750 shop hours, and 4,630 field hours were invested in this phase.

Automation
Delivered a full commercial automation system with critical environment control and gas detection control packages. Baker Group also led project commissioning.

Structured Cabling
Installed CAT6 data drops to all workstations, labs, and cameras, plus (30) pendant paging speakers throughout the building.

Security
Installed a complete surveillance and access control system including 24 cameras (14 interior, 10 exterior) and 7 card readers/door contacts.

Site Utilities
Installed storm sewer, water distribution, and sanitary sewer systems supporting the new facility.
Service
Baker Group continues to provide preventive maintenance on HVAC and controls systems, partnering closely with designated teams to ensure long-term reliability.

Results
