Camp Dodge Armed Forces Readiness Center
This design-build project was comprised of three separate buildings; US Army Recruiting (USAREC) building, US Military Entrance Processing Station (USMEPS), Iowa Army National Guard – Freedom Center. With funding coming from the federal government, this project was the largest design/build project of its kind undertaken by any State National Guard. The project was so successful that the National Guard’s project managers and contracting officers, who worked closely with this project, were asked to share with their peers around the country their keys to success.
Baker Group was the mechanical designer, and provided mechanical piping, sheet metal and control systems installation. The systems in the office areas are VAV, with hot water heat. Heating water is provided through gas fired boilers. Chilled water is provided through air cooled chillers. All systems, including plumbing, were designed with the need to achieve a U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver rating. All aspect of the design was approached with an energy efficient, sustainable building in mind.
