Cedar Rapids Public Library

Cedar Rapids Public Library

The new public library was constructed to replace the library destroyed during the flooding in Cedar Rapids that took its toll on so much of the downtown district. This facility along with several others were part of a larger FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) supported effort to restore a sustainable post flood downtown district. As a gathering place for research, education, and the arts, the Cedar Rapids Library is an ICON for state of the art learning and sustainable mechanical systems.

Even though a bid project - Baker Group approached the dynamic design of the library HVAC System from an owners perspective so that when complete the Building Automation system was as state of the art as the facility it controlled. Utilizing BuildingIT by Baker Group, enabled the use of strategic partners to deliver WEB Based, fully integrated systems that are adaptable to HVAC systems such as: Geo-Thermal Pump and Re-Inject Ground Water System used for Condenser Water to the Heat Pump and Chilled Water Equipment. Energy Recovery Units responsible for tempered ventilation air to the primary Air Handling Systems. Both VAV (variable air volume) and Under Floor Displacement Ventilation Systems were used to serve the space. Supplemental systems such as moisture detection, radiant in-floor heating, well level sensing, air flow measuring and electrical power metering at 17 different locations.

Baker Group helped make this a State-of-the-Art research and education facility!
