Elanco's Fort Dodge Facility

Elanco Reactor Installation

Elanco, with a facility located in nearby Fort Dodge, Iowa, is a world leader in developing innovative products and solutions that enhance animal health, empowering the people who raise and care for animals.

Baker Group was contracted to perform piping work for an animal pharmaceutical project to expand production in their existing facility. Our team was brought onboard to assist in many facets of the project, including ASME BPE process piping, B31.3 utility piping, plumbing and equipment setting.

The overall project had an aggressive schedule and was phased into three parts that lasted roughly 15 months. Baker Group managed that aggressive schedule while working in an existing facility that was operational to help get the new production online by the owner’s hard delivery date and maintained operation in the existing plant throughout the project.

To assist in the complexity of design and help meet the schedule, our team created an LOD 500 piping 3D model. Baker Group’s modeling and detailing process allowed for 33% of total hours to be completed in our prefabrication shop, which helped meet the schedule. During the 15 months, we were able to perform 10,388 welds, of which 8,094
were done in Baker Group’s prefabrication shop. Shifting a large portion of work off-site allowed for a smaller on-site work crew, which was beneficial because of the small footprint of the project and minimized trade stacking.

Baker Group also assisted in working through procurement issues by innovating ways through our 3D modeling to fabricate and install piping systems without all components and equipment onsite.
