Iowa Events Center

Baker Group was asked to upgrade and modernize the Iowa Events Center’s aging CCTV and Access Control Systems.  The Center’s existing legacy system was installed when the facility was originally built in 2005. 

Baker Group installed the Avigilon Access Control and CCTV Video SMS (Security Management System). This fully integrated solution using Avigilon software marries the access control and CCTV system into one functional software platform. The Center’s 119 existing cameras were encoded into the new SMS so the facility didn’t have to bare the cost of replacing each camera. This allowed the client to recognize the benefits of the new software and allow them to replace the legacy cameras to newer IP technology as budgets permitted.   

The Avigilon Access control solution allowed this client to re-use the existing edge devices (readers, request to exits, electric locks and door position switches) and tie those devices into new controllers and access control software. 

Since the initial installation the client has taken advantage of Avigilon’s Analytics, 360 degree and 180 degree cameras that allow those views using a single camera license.   

The ongoing costs benefit of this system is that with Avigilon, there are no recurring software fees and there is no software costs for minor upgrades and updates to the software.
