Knoxville Hospital
Baker Group worked with MercyOne in Knoxville to update their pharmacy department within the hospital. The existing building was a 1-story hospital with an attached clinic. Baker Group add a new MAU with HW reheat VAV’s, as well as a plant source steamed humidifier to serve the four clean rooms. Within the pharmacy, a circulating hydronic FCU was installed to condition its spaces. Baker Group also provided and OA and Exhaust from existing AHU’s and exhaust fans to meet the OA requirements in the pharmacy area.
The hospital was an outdated campus that was chopped up with additions and remodels that had been added on over the years. The main goal of the project was to update and remodel the existing pharmacy and office spaces. The owners main concern was to ensure that new code requirements were being met for the pharmacy departments.
Baker Group was responsible for reworking the existing plumbing of the building to two fixtures, installing a front end and controllers to integrate the HVAC system, and providing a electrical service and panel to serve the space lighting and power.
There were two main challenges that Baker Group faced in the construction of the pharmacy. The pharmacy was unable to be shut down therefore a phasing plan was specifically developed with the Input of other parties that were involved. Another challenge that Baker Group faced was the set budget placed by the MercyOne. Baker Group designed a system that would meet USP requirements and would not go above
the budget expectations.
Baker Group worked to maintain a relationship with the owners of Knoxville Hospital. When they were ready for the remodel, they were able to call on us to bring in our knowledge of the original building which aided in understanding the existing systems and structure and how to best execute upgrades and additions to the building.
