When Principal needed to upgrade their campus buildings system infrastructures, they were aware that it was going to be a large undertaking that Baker Group was well equipped to deliver on. Several Baker Group business units were involved in the eleven-story - 400,940 sq. ft. remodel including: Mechanical, Service, Automation, Electrical and Sheet Metal.

Collaboration and Communication Create Desired Results

A challenge of this project was that Principal wanted to keep the building occupied so that their employees could remain at work with minor interruptions. Through constant communication and understanding of the customers’ needs and strict attention to the schedule, Baker Group was able to deliver. “One of the difficulties associated with this project was keeping the majority of the building occupied while doing a major upgrade to each floor. This took a large amount of forethought on where to start and stop vertical plumbing and ductwork vertical components in the building to minimize rework, occupant disruption, and downtime events. Another challenge was relocating the food service from the 3rd floor to the 1st floor. The kitchen exhaust re-routing required a high-level of coordination,” says Joel Bartlett, Senior Mechanical Engineer at Baker Group.
