Principal Financial Group Data Center High Density Server Farm Upgrade
What do you do when you designed your data center for 73 watts per square foot and need more power and cooling to support the latest Computer Technology? You bring in Baker Group and Data Power Technology to add Liebert’s latest Extreme Density (XD) in-row cooling technology. This team took one section of an existing Principal Data Center and added this Liebert XD Cooling, plus Liebert Power Distribution equipment to allow power usage of over 260 watts per square foot.
In addition, Baker Group added a complete Schneider Electric I/A Series “Data Center Dashboard”. This “Dashboard” gives the Principal Financial Group Data Center Team constant monitoring and reporting of all of the equipment in the data center, including:
Electrical Systems:
- Power capacity of the Utility power and two Generators.
- Power usage of three Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) units.
- Power usage of four Power Distribution Units (PDU’s).
- Consumption of each electrical breaker in 24 panels.
- Consumption of each computer rack, while also reporting the temperature at the top of each rack.
Chilled Water Cooling System:
- Chiller operation compared to capacity (three chillers).
- Dry Cooler operation compared to capacity (three dry coolers).
- Chilled water pump control and monitoring.
- Dry Cooler pump control and monitoring.
- Computer Room AC unit monitoring and control (ten units).
- Ventilation AHU monitoring and Control.
Graphical Reporting:
- Floor plan with real time, color coded power consumption data for each rack:
- Floor plan with real time return air temps to each Computer Room AC unit.
- Charts and graphs monitoring power consumption of each piece of computer room equipment.
- Charts and graphs monitoring all Chilled Water use in the data center.
- Graphical forecasting of when continued increase in electrical load will reach data center capacity.
- Graphical forecasting of when continued increase in cooling load will reach data center capacity.
The Liebert Equipment and Schneider Electric I/A Series BAS Dashboard make an older Data Center a reliable center for computing growth!
