Transamerica Building HVAC Upgrade

Transamerica is a global wealth management company with offices all over the world. With this particular office, located in Cedar Rapid, Baker Group has a strong relationship with the Regional Facilities Manager and was given an opportunity to be included in the bid documents as a potential BAS provider. The original BAS, provided in the mid-90s, was a Trane Tracer-Summit system that the existing facilities staff was very familiar with. Baker Group was challenged with finding ways to show the value in replacing this existing system as the customer had a goal of obtaining an upgraded HVAC system with a new building automation system.

Baker Group presented the Niagara solution to the facilities team to demonstrate how Niagara is not just a control system, but a full integration platform. This appealed to the facilities team; however, they were still skeptical of the transition. We provided additional information that showed the advantages/disadvantages of the Niagara solution
over the Trane control system. Through the hard work of the tier III pursuit team, we were able to convince the facilities team that the Niagara solution was the right solution for them.

The scope of the project included nearly 200 VAVs, 10 RTUs/AHUs, existing exhaust fans and a hot water boiler system. The field devices will be the Schneider SmartX controller line with Niagara as the BAS. We engaged the Transamerica IT team early in the process to get our controllers tested and approved to help speed the process
along. Early coordination with the GC and the owner has helped set expectation throughout the course of the project. Over 1350 tech hours and 1600 electrical hours are included in this project.

This project was won because our team focused on creating a lifelong relationship, acted in the best interest of our customer. Were willing to run into the fire, and we are doing what we said we would do throughout the pursuit process
