University of Iowa BioVentures Center
This project was a collaborative joint venture between private industry and the University of Iowa. This project is the first of its kind at the UI Oakdale Facility. The University of Iowa wanted a cost-effective and efficient space for a laboratory incubator project that caters to start-up and transitional companies. Utilizing design/build the Bio Ventures Center building provides wet lab and office space for life science companies.
The Bio Ventures Center currently contains: Bio Ventures Center business incubator; 20 wet laboratory modules; 16 office/dry laboratory modules; administrative offices for UI Research Park and Business Incubator; technical support areas; executive board room and shared conference rooms; shared laboratory equipment; flexible design to enable company expansion and address individual company requirements; and multi-purpose room.
The systems in this building were collaborative design between KJWW Engineering Consultants and Baker Group. The system is an AAON RTU with the capacity to have 100% outside air if needed, for the cooling of the building and electric heat on VAV boxes to heat the building. Additionally, there are two, Strobic exhaust fans designed for the hoods in the wet labs.
