Allied Insurance Data Center

Allied Insurance included a data center in the construction of their new office building in downtown Des Moines. Unfortunately they allowed their low bid mechanical contractor to install the critical cooling systems, rather than choose a Data Center Specialist. As a result, the chilled water lines were routed directly under the cooling units, blocking the down flow of air. In addition the refrigerant piping in the dual cool units leaked and allowed liquid to return to the compressors, causing multiple compressor failures. In two years, Allied endured extensive computer room downtime and averaged nearly $25,000 in repairs per AC unit.

To solve their problems, Allied called Baker Group’s Data Center Specialty Team. Baker Group Specialists quickly identified the installation errors, re-piped the refrigerant lines to include proper traps for the vertical piping rise to the remote condensing units. Baker Group also implemented a Preventive/Predictive Maintenance program to assure Allied would enjoy the equipment uptime they needed.

Today, Allied now has a reliable data center, thanks to Baker Group’s Data Center Specialty Team.
