NDA Data Center PDCS Interconnection Wiring

Client D’s Data Center requires one of the most advanced medium-voltage electrical distribution systems in the country. Baker Group was already a key partner on the project, responsible for major mechanical, electrical, piping, and controls integration work. During installation, a critical gap emerged as there were no clear drawings for the interconnection wiring of the Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) protection relays. These relays are essential to safe operations, providing arc-mitigation, transformer protection, fault detection, and event analysis. Without them, the system could not be fully tested or commissioned.

Rather than allowing this issue to delay the project, Baker Group stepped up quickly to go above and beyond. The automation team developed a complete set of Protection Relay Interconnection Drawings, pulling together information from vendor documents, submittals, red-line markups, and field verification. This package mapped out every input, output and cross-connection, ensuring a complete and accurate solution.

Baker Group’s prior experience with the Power Distribution Control System (PDCS) wiring allowed for a strong foundation enabling seamless integration between breakers, PLCs, and SEL relays. The result was a fully coordinated, engineer-approved wiring package that enables safe, timely commissioning of Client D’s electrical protection system. This project is a testament to Baker Group’s proactive mindset to step in quickly, solve complex challenges, and reinforce their reputation as a trusted partner in the data-center market.
